Rumours are circling on social media that Arsenal are in talks with a former player ahead of a potential board level appointment.

The former player could be Marc Overmars, who made over 140 appearances for Arsenal between 1997 and 2000, and is the current Director of Football at Ajax. He’s hinted at a return this summer too.

“ I think there is a list with some names (Arsenal Director of Football shortlist) and I might be on it. I know the club pretty well, I have always kept in touch with Arsenal. So in that respect it is not surprising,” he said, reports the Independent.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also spoke out about the links to Overmars. He said: “I like Marc of course. He is director of football at Ajax. I am sure there are plenty of candidates to take care of Arsenal Football Club.”

Arsenal have been making a host of changes on and off the pitch this summer, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis having promised big changes to the club.

Other former players could be Dennis Bergkamp, the current assistant manager of Ajax, and Patrick Vieira – manager of New York City FC. It’s nevertheless good news for supporters that the club are finally listening to advice and want more legends of the club having an influence.
