Derby County are interested in signing Spanish midfielder Jon Toral.

  • Toral played for Derby manager Gary Rowett at Birmingham
  • He spent last season on loan at Granada and Rangers

The 22-year-old has spent most of his Arsenal career on loan, and could now be on the verge of leaving the club on a permanent basis. According to Pat Murphy of the BBC, Derby County are hoping to do a deal for the midfielder.

Toral worked under current Derby manager Gary Rowett while he was on loan at Birmingham durign the 2015/16 season. He had a highly impressive season, scoring eight goals and being voted the club’s player of the season by supporters.

He started the following season on loan at Granada, but returned mid-season due to a lack of playing time. He then joined Rangers for the remainder of the season, making 12 appearances in all competitions.

Toral signed for Arsenal, along with friend Hector Bellerin, in 2011 from Barcelona but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the club. Although he trained with the squad this summer, he was not taken on the tour of Australia and China.

There shouldn’t be much preventing a move to Derby from happening.
