After playing against him while at Paris Saint-Germain, David Luiz has applauded Arsenal for signing Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon this summer.

  • Luiz rates Lacazette after facing him in Ligue 1
  • Chelsea man says £52m striker will be great signing for Arsenal
  • Lacazette set to face Chelsea on Saturday in pre-season friendly
  • Arsenal v Chelsea kicks off at 12:40pm (UK time) on 22 July

Before Luiz returned to Chelsea last year, he spent from 2014 – 2016 at PSG where he faced Lyon and therefore Lacazette several times.

While Arsenal’s new striker didn’t manage to score against PSG, he did net 76 Ligue 1 goals over the last three seasons in 97 appearances.

“Lacazette is a top player, top strike,” Luiz told the Standard Sport.

“I had many opportunities to play against him in France and he was always difficult. Arsenal did well to take him.

“What makes him so good? He has the timing to go into the space, he finishes well, he can score many goals, he can assist. So he is a top-level player.”

As a centre-back, Luiz will know the type of grief the France international can cause all too well as he’s not just a prolific striker, his movement is also incredible.

Lacazette has already scored his first goal for Arsenal and while it was only against Sydney FC during pre-season, he can only score against who’s put in front of him.

The next team that just so happens to be in front of him is Chelsea.
