The global appeal of Premier League football means more and more teams are travelling far and wide in pre-season to meet their fans, Arsenal more so than anyone.

In an article on City A.M. they rounded up the longest and shortest travellers, as well as ranking the teams in terms of how many matches they’ll play.

Coming out on top on distance travelled is Arsenal, which should be no surprise given the first two pre-season matches were literally on the other side of the world.

Arsenal will cover approximately 21,000 miles, so in times like these it’s probably a good thing the club is sponsored by an airline. Arsenal have two more matches abroad, then another two in the Emirates Cup before a trip to Wembley for the Community Shield to kick the season off.

By comparison, Burnley are travelling a measly 837 miles, and hardly leave the country, with their furthest destination in Ireland. In comparison to Arsenal’s six pre-season games, West Brom have planned 10, the highest total of any Premier League team.

Chelsea have technically got the fewest pre-season friendlies, with only three planned. However, they have other matches planned behind closed doors, such as their comprehensive 8-2 victory against Fulham on Saturday, and join Arsenal at Wembley before their Premier League opener the next weekend.
