Arsenal are believed to be targeting Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

  • Arsenal were linked with Goretzka earlier in the summer
  • He turned down a contract extension at Schalke
  • Bayern are expected to sign him on a free transfer

Goretzka was linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer once it became apparent the 22-year-old wouldn’t be signing a contract extension with Schalke.

SportBild have now reported a fresh link, and states that Arsene Wenger is hopeful of doing a cut price deal for Goretzka this summer.

Schalke’s general manager Christian Heidel has previously said that Goretzka will not be sold this summer despite only having 12 months left on his contract.

This stance has led to speculation that Bayern Munich will eventually sign the midfielder on a free transfer next season, with reports claiming they’ve already reached an agreement with the player.

Manchester City, Tottenham and Juventus have also been linked, but it seems Bayern have the upper hand currently.

Goretzka represented Germany at the Confederations Cup, and was a stand-out performer on their way to lifting the trophy.
