Arsenal’s pursuit for AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar appears to have been fruitless, with latest reports on Twitter suggesting the proposed deal is a long way from being completed.

According to previous reports, Arsene Wenger’s side had agreed a deal with Monaco for the 21-year-old, but the announcement wasn’t expected to be made until they returned home from China and when Monaco found a replacement.

Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli claimed Lemar would set them back £48m, plus £3m in bonuses, taking their summer spending close to £100m. The French international is coming off the back of a fantastic season, scoring and creating 19 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games.

However, Ornstein’s tweet suggests Arsenal are far away from completing a deal and instead are more worrried on the future of Alexis Sanchez. It’s a big blow as supporters were hoping to see the Gunners attack get a real injection of talent, but the saga goes on.
