Arsenal could make a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to latest reports.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola have reported that the player’s future is yet to be decided, with no bids and a £26.7m valuation on his head.

This isn’t the first time the Gunners have been linked, and at this point Arsenal already have a number of options in the position so it doesn’t seem likely a bid will be made.

Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Newcastle United are the other clubs believed to be keen on Carvalho, but West Bromwich Albion are the only club reported to have made a bid.

With Granit Xhaka appearing in more games for Arsenal than anyone else bar Alexis last season, the holding midfielder role seems to be nailed down.

The type of midfielder the Gunners are more likely to be in for is a box-to-box player. Coquelin and Ramsey have both played the role with varying degrees of success, but neither have really nailed down the spot, so there’s still potential for another signing.
