After finally signing for Arsenal from Olympique Lyonnais this summer, club-record arrival Alexandre Lacazette will now have to choose his shirt number of the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old wore the #10 shirt for Lyon and he wears the #20 for the France national team. Both shirt numbers are currently occupied by Arsenal players who aren’t likely to negotiate.

Jack Wilshere is Arsenal’s #10. However, the playmaker’s long-term future with Arsenal is in doubt given he spent last season on loan with Bournemouth and is out of contract next summer. As a result, there may be a small chance the shirt number becomes vacant if he’s sold ahead of the new season.

Shkodran Mustafi wears the #20 shirt for the Gunners and only joined the club last summer so it’s highly unlikely he would give it up unless he could get a lower number traditionally for a defender. Per Mertesacker is #4, Gabriel is #5 and Laurent Koscielny is #6.

Lacazette may consider the #9 shirt valuable as it used to be in the past – Alan Shearer (Newcastle), Andy Cole (Manchester United) and Fernando Torres (Liverpool) used to wear it in the Premier League. Lucas Perez currently occupies #9 for Arsenal but his future is in doubt this summer so the Frenchman might consider replacing him.
