Nacho Monreal could cost Athletic Bilbao €38m.

This is according to Futbol Finanzas who, using their system, calculated that Monreal’s current market value would be €38.3m.

The calculation is based on the quality of the player, his current age and how marketable he is. The figure seems unrealistic and it’s very unlikely Athletic Bilbao would pay that much, even with their unique circumstances.

Bilbao only sign players of Basque descent. Monreal, who hails from Pamplona in the north of Spain, would be one of the few Basque left backs around who could strengthen Bilbao’s first team.

Monreal’s future at Arsenal has been called into question by the signing of Sead Kolasinac, who looks set to take the Spaniard’s place in the team.

However, in a recent interview, Monreal said he was happy at Arsenal and wasn’t looking to leave. That stance could change if Bilbao did actually offer €38m for him, as it’s doubtful Arsenal would reject such a large offer.
