West Ham have cooled their interest in Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, a player who has been linked with Arsenal and a number of other clubs this summer.

  • Arsenal are said to be interested in the Manchester United centre back
  • Newcastle and Everton have also been linked
  • West Ham pulled out of the race as they’re overstocked in the position

According to the Express, the Hammers were reportedly one of the clubs interested in the Manchester United centre back, but manager Slaven Bilic believed he didn’t need strengthen in that position.

Arsenal are still interested in Smalling and are exploring the possibility of a deal. Everton and Newcastle are also keen for the right price. Smalling is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.

A number of injuries may have contributed to the downfall of a player that was performing extremely well under former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal before Mourinho’s arrival.

Arsenal were interested in the former Fulham man when Van Gaal was at the United helm, and despite a number of poor performances towards the back end of last season, Smalling continues to be linked with a move to the Emirates.
