Reports from Spain suggests Alvaro Morata is set to leave Real Madrid for a whopping €80m (£70m) this summer, having only returned to the Bernabeú for €28.3m (£25m) twelve months ago.

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are increasingly close to signing the striker, and given their flexible transfer budget they seem unfazed by having to overpay for a top-quality forward this summer.

The proposed deal will represent Real’s highest fee earned from a departure since Ángel di Maria to the Red Devils in the 2014/15 campaign.

The 24-year-old Spaniard netted 20 goals and created six more assists across 43 appearances last season, although his desire for regular first-team minutes was not fulfilled by manager Zinedine Zidane during a lengthy season where he felt more opportunities should’ve been granted.

But unless Morata actively seeks a move elsewhere other than the Premier League, he’s likely to complete a lucrative deal to join Manchester United and reunite with former manager Mourinho.

United are the only club willing to meet such an asking price and are the msot depserate to strengthen their attack with a stellar centre-forward.
