Arsenal legend, Ray Parlour, believes that Arsene Wenger needs to block all offers for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to keep him in north London this summer.

  • Ox said to have snubbed Liverpool for Arsenal stay
  • Gunners prepared to offer 23-year-old £100k-per-week
  • Parlour urges Arsenal to do what they can to keep him

While the Ox was widely believed to be about to sign a new Arsenal deal just last week, the rumour mill spins quickly, and now it’s being reported that Liverpool are actually in a good position to sign the 23-year-old after all.

Parlour insists this simply can’t happen as the Ox is one of the club’s key men and that Wenger must do everything he can to keep the midfielder at the club.

“They [Arsenal] will definitely try and keep him, I should imagine,” the former Gunner told talkSPORT [via Metro].

“It’s all about his representatives who’d say ‘Is he going to play enough football?’.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain is a key player and these days you do need big squads. I’m sure Arsenal will be sitting down with his agent, trying to sign him up.

“But it’s up to Oxlade-Chamberlain, these players want to play. It’s going to be interesting but for me, I’d love him to stay.”

Chelsea are also suddenly being linked, which does make it appear as if the Ox’s agent is simply striving for a better deal.

Arsenal were said to be willing to offer him £100k-per-week but perhaps he wants more, which would be a little cheeky considering the England international has missed 154 games through injury since moving to north London from Southampton in 2011.

Whether his agent is looking for a better contract at Arsenal elsewhere, we’ll just have to wait and see, but Wenger has spoken about his desire to keep the Ox at the club more than once.

I’m sure he’ll do everything in his power to keep him.
