Newcastle are interested in taking Calum Chambers on loan for the season.

  • Chambers spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough
  • He could have a role to play next season if Arsenal play with three centre backs

The Telegraph report that Newcastle want to loan Chambers for the season should Arsene Wenger allow him to leave this summer.

Chambers spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and suffered relegation despite some good performances.

The 22-year-old had struggled for first team football at Arsenal but could have a bigger role to play next season should Arsene Wenger opt to continue using three centre backs. Chambers could play as one of the centre backs or as a right wing-back in the system.

He’ll be with away with the England U21 squad this summer as they participate in the U21 European Championships in Poland. He’ll have an opportunity to impress Wenger and play with Arsenal teammate Rob Holding.

A loan to Newcastle could be a good move for him, as he’d learn a lot from manager Rafa Benitez. However, you’d have to worry about his long-term prospects at Arsenal should he be loaned out again, especially with Rob Holding playing so well, let alone the vast options at the manager’s disposal – Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Per Mertesacker, Gabriel.
