Shkodran Mustafi was an unused substitute in Germany’s 4-1 Confederation Cup win over Mexico on Thursday night.
- Mustafi previously benched for Cameroon clash
- Centre-back played first two clashes of tournament
- Germany to face Alexis Sanchez’s Chile in final
Germany have joined Chile in the Confederations Cup final after beating Mexico 4-1 in the semis.
Mustafi was unfortunately benched again during his country’s emphatic win, which saw an early brace from Schalke’s Leon Goretzka more or less put the clash to bed within eight minutes.
RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner put the score at 3-0 just after the half-time break, and while Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder, Marco Fabián, netted a consolation goal for Mexico a minute before the end, 23-year-old Ajax winger, Amin Younes, scored in extra time to bring the scorelone to 4-1.
The win means that Germany join Chile, who beat Portugal 3-0 on penalties on Wednesday, in the final.
Whether Mustafi will feature or not is anybody’s guess.
The 25-year-old played 90 minutes against Australia and Chile but has missed the last couple of clashes.
