Matt Macey was one of the young prospects at Arsenal but hasn’t kicked on in the years that followed, and the goalkeeper could be permanently let go in the next 12 months given the competition for places.

The 22-year-old joined Arsenal in 2013 for £119k from Bristol Rovers, but has failed to record a single first-team appearance. The last two seasons have seen Macey playing for Accrington Stanley and Luton Town on loan, and the player’s contract aty Arsenal is now in its final year.

The 6ft 7in shot-stopper has been on the bench at times this season but hasn’t come close to dethroning the likes of Petr Cech, David Ospina, Emiliano Martinez and Wojciech Szczesny. Macey is expected to leave the club as a result, possibly on a free next summer if no suitors make a bid beforehand.

Macey did put on some solid performances this season, making 22 appearances in all competitions, while keeping seven clean sheets in the progress. But he’s some distance from the first-team and isn’t likely to be offered a new deal by Arsenal as a result of his lack of playing time.
