Liverpool have pulled ahead of the competition in the race to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

  • Liverpool have made a “direct enquiry”
  • They believe they can sign Chamberlain for £25m
  • Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested

Chamberlain’s contract saga has now developed into a full-blown transfer war. At least, that’s the impression the Mirror give, claiming Liverpool have made their move with a “direct enquiry.”

Liverpool believe they’ve gotten ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City and are confident of signing Chamberlain for £25m. Despite spending around £35m on Mohamed Salah recently isn’t expected to slow them down.

Chamberlain has a year remaining on his current Arsenal contract and there have been mixed reports about how far along negotiations with Arsenal are. The player’s agent has been using the speculation to drum up interest from a host of clubs.

The 23-year-old has long been admired by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and is coming off the back of an impressive season with Arsenal. He scored and created nine goals in 16 Premier League starts.
