Arsenal reportedly have competition for Benfica’s Pizzi in the form of Liverpool and Juventus.

  • Pizzi rose through the ranks at GD Bragança and then Braga
  • Won Europa League with Atletico Madrid
  • Signed for Benfica in 2013 for £11.9m
  • Arsenal looking to bolster central midfield
  • Liverpool and Juventus also interested

Arsenal are apparently looking to strengthen their central midfield since 32-year-old Santi Cazorla will not only miss the start of next season with his ongoing Achilles problem, but is generally injury prone.

27-year-old Pizzi, who’s been at Benfica for four years, seems like a good fit and the Gunners are therefore trying to secure his signature this summer.

However, Pizzi’s successful 2016/17 season, in which he scored 10 Liga NOS goals and assisted nine in 33 appearances, has attracted Liverpool and Juventus who are now, according to Correio de Manha, also interested in the Portuguese international.

Pizzi, whose full name is Luís Miguel Afonso Fernandes, signed for Benfica in 2013 from Atletico Madrid, where he won the Europa League, for £11.9m and was immediately loaned out to Espanyol for the 2013/14 season.

Upon his return to Portugal, he’s gone on to win the league with Benfica three times.
