Arsenal have reportedly renewed their interest in Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, seeing as the Red Devils are preparing to sign Benfica defender, Victor Lindelof.

  • Smalling has struggling for game time under Mourinho
  • United about to sign Benfica defender
  • West Ham, Arsenal and Everton interested in Smalling
  • Centre-back set to cost £12m with two years left on current deal

Smalling has been pushed to the peripheries of Jose Mourinho’s squad, only making 18 Premier League appearances last season.

While the 27-year-old did spend a total of 91 days sidelined through injury, even when he was fit, he struggled for game time.

With Mourinho reportedly set to bring in Benfica centre-back, Lindelof, for £31m very soon, the Express are claiming that Smalling could be set for a move to Arsenal. A club the England international has been linked with for several seasons.

United are apparently only asking for £12m for Smalling, with two years left on his current deal. However, West Ham are in pole position to sign him, while Arsenal and Everton are merely ‘interested’.

Wenger has been keeping an eye in Smalling since he played for Fulham over seven years ago and once even tried to swap him for Thomas Vermaelen and a fee, but right now he’s no better than the centre-backs the Gunners already have.

If he’s not happy sitting on the bench at United, would he really move to Arsenal to do the same?
