Martin Keown believes Arsenal will renew Jack Wilshere’s contract this summer.

  • Keown thinks Wenger will support Wilshere with a new contact
  • The new contract might not be as long or lucrative as Wilshere wants
  • Wilshere’s current deal expires next summer

The offer might not be as lucrative or as lengthy as Wilshere would want, but Keown believes that Arsene Wenger will continue to support a highly rated talent.

“We know Jack is a special talent,” said Keown. “His injuries have marred his career. It must be tough for Arsene Wenger to watch. How many times has he broken ankles and had operations?

“His quality isn’t in doubt, it’s his health that’s the issue. There are some big decisions to be made but I would feel he is someone Wenger would try to keep. Somebody that he will try to support.

“They certainly will offer him a new contract.”

Wilshere’s situation at Arsenal is a rather familiar tale of woe.

Having spent most of the 2015/16 season injured, Wilshere was loaned out to Bournemouth last season to get valuable game time and find fitness again.

He played 27 times for them, but found his season cut short in April by a leg fracture.

Now back at Arsenal, there are serious questions about his future at the club. He has 12 months remaining on his contract, and Arsene Wenger has to decide whether its worth keeping such an injury prone player, or moving him on.
