Sean Clohessy, a former Academy product at Arsenal, has officially joined Ryman League Premier Divison side Leatherhead.

According to Get Surrey, Clohessy will join fellow new arrivals Jack Midson and player-manager Sammy Moore – both former AFC Wimbledon players – at Fetcham Grove next season.

The 30-year-old defender, born in Croydon, has been constantly on the move in recent seasons following his departure from Southend United in 2013.

The right-back was regularly competing with Kerrea Gilbert for a starting spot at youth level and although he felt a move elsewhere would help his development, it hasn’t been plain sailing for a player eager to establish stability in his professional career.

Having played for Kilmarnock, Colchester United, Leyton Orient and Braintree Town since August of 2013, it’s fair to say that he’s building up a reputation for being somewhat of a journeyman, keen to play wherever possible whilst being guaranteed regular minutes.

He’s a big name acquisition in a relatively small league but will be hoping that his performances attract interest from higher-quality clubs in future, especially given his consistent defensive displays in League One with Colchester.

Dissent cost him an extended opportunity to impress and he was ruthlessly punished by manager Tony Humes for refusing to shake the boss’s hand after being substituted during a defeat. He’ll be keen for another chance before it’s too late.
