The English press have criticised Arsenal’s “lack of ambition” due to the Gunners overlooking Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

  • Aubameyang is reportedly available for transfer
  • Dortmund want £61.5m
  • Gabon international has scored 79 goals in last two seasons

Arsenal’s ambition being questioned is nothing new, but the Metro have taken quite a jab at the London club for not pursuing Dortmund’s Aubameyang.

The article questions why English clubs, specifically Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, aren’t showing much interest in the Gabon international and seem to prefer other targets instead.

It’s a fair question. Aubameyang is a very good striker and one that somewhat presents value for monry if he’s attainable for £61.5m this summer. Given the astronomical figures presented for other strikers, you’d think a whole host of clubs would be lining up to sign him.

Arsenal supporters are crying out for the club to sign a centre-forward with such an impressive goal record, regardless of the price. But while the Gunners have caught flak for not acting, Aubameyang simply may not be as available as reports would have people believe.

It’s also possible Dortmund’s asking price is much higher than the figure reported. After all, if the likes of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku are commanding £100m price tags, why wouldn’t Aubameyang?
