The agent of Elseid Hysaj has confirmed interest of Premier League clubs in his player and Arsenal are mentioned as one of the possible destinations for the Albanian full-back.
Elseid Hysaj has been attracting lots of interest after his impressive season at Napoli, a club he joined in the summer of 2015 from Empoli for €5m.
He made a total of 45 appearances over all competitions, with two assists.
Hysaj is also a regular part of Albanian national team, making his senior debut in 2013 and gathering 29 caps at the time of writing.
Strengths
Hysaj’s defensive contribution is his main strength, and the player is very good in maintaining defensive formation and breaking attacks on his flank.
On average he makes two tackles per-game combined with one interception and two clearances. He is also decent when confronted with aerial duels, wining around 58% of all high balls.
Hysaj is a very good passer and maintains an 86% passing success rate. He likes to play lots of short passes and do layoffs. He is also able to play on both sides of the pitch if required.
Next, Hysaj’s weaknesses
Weaknesses
Hysaj has some shortcomings when he gets to the final third of the pitch.
His crossing is probably his weakest part of his game, and the player has problems when delivering the ball in the penalty box.
Even though he makes 0.54 chances and 0.51 key passes per game, that is more or less down to playing low balls to incoming wingers and midfielders and the player often looks to play it safe rather than pushing the ball forward.
This can be considered a major weakness in his style as he is very good at taking the ball in defence and making a forward run, opening up space that he then fails to make best use of.
Next, Hysaj’s potential at Arsenal
Potential at Arsenal
At 23-years-of-age, he still can make a lot of progress and if given the chance to shine and further develop his abilities while working on his influence in attack, he could be a great addition to the squad.
If he does come to Arsenal, he would probably get the role of a squad-rotation player, especially if Hector Bellerin remains at the club as on the left flank there are already plenty of options with Monreal, Gibbs and of course, newbie Kolasinac.
The player has a contract with Napoli until 2021 and Arsenal would probably have to offer around €30m in order to start negotiations.
Also, the player would require a significant amount of playing time, and it would be hard for Arsene Wenger to promise anything close to that.
