OGC Nice striker Mario Balotelli has reportedly turned down interest from Arsenal and others this summer to sign a new one-year-deal after impressing in his first season in France.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Italian international scored 17 goals in 28 appearances with Nice, 12 months after signing on a free transfer for Liverpool. “We are proud to have convinced the superstar to join us last year and to have seen him flourish on and off the field.”

Balotelli, still only 26, has still struggled with injuries in the last year, while picking up suspensions which saw him miss important outings dotted in the campaign. Nevertheless, he was singled out by Nice for putting his career first, not money.

“The Italian international has made considerable financial efforts to continue the Nice adventure, as he always intended during this off-season, favouring the sporting aspect and the choice of his heart. Today we are happy. Welcome to you, Super Mario.”

Balotelli, who was linked with Arsenal last season. revealed his own happiness at signing a new deal with Nice on social media. His side finish third in the league.
