Arsenal Ladies goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal has left the Netherlands training camp ahead of international friendly fixtures against Japan and Austria.
The 27-year-old, who played all but one of Arsenal’s Spring Series matches this year, has been struggling with groin complaints since featuring in Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing over Bristol last weekend.
As a result, she has been replaced by FC Twente’s Barbara Lorsheyd and it’s a frustrating blow for the goalkeeper to take.
Having made her first senior appearance in 2011, she would’ve been eager to earn more starts on the international scene as important preparation for this summer’s European Championships on home soil next month.
Netherlands have been drawn in Group A alongside Norway, Denmark and Belgium. As for van Veenendaal, the severity of her injury has not been revealed, though she will be hoping to recover quickly and earn her starting place back before it’s too late.
