Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic looks set to join Manchester United this summer, with Arsenal failing to convince him to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

  • Chelsea and United have agreed a £40m fee
  • Matic could reunite with Mourinho at Old Trafford
  • Arsenal were believed to be interested

Matic could be on his way to Old Trafford after a £40m deal was reportedly agreed. According to the Daily Star, the deal could be concluded sometime this week.

The move would reunite Matic with Jose Mourinho, who signed him for Chelsea from Benfica in 2015. Matic went on to play a key part in Chelsea’s title win that season.

Arsenal had been linked with the midfielder during his Benfica days and recently this summer as it became clear Chelsea would be willing to sell him.

The Serbian was seen as exactly the sort of midfielder Arsenal needed to challenge for the Premier League title. But it appears they will miss out on this one and will have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
