It looks as if Arsenal will have no choice but to sign a replacement for Santi Cazorla this summer.

Cazorla is reportedly set to struggle to be fit this year after a number of set-backs following his ankle surgery last season.

The Spaniard, who signed a new deal with Arsenal mid-way through last term, has now undergone eight surgeries since November, and, at the age of 32, his playing days are numbered.

With this in mind, Arsenal need to sign a new central midfielder this summer. And it’s fair to say that they should have done this a long time ago.

Santi is a special player and finding someone to fill his shoes will be a difficult task. However, trying to fit square pegs in round holes has worked so far and it certainly won’t work as a long-term solution.

Until now, the club were just holding the space, waiting for Santi’s return, and now it’s not looking as if that return will happen, they need to act.
