Reports from the Birmingham Mail claim that Arsenal and Chelsea have scouted Wolves’ Helder Costa last season.
The 23-year-old Portuguese is valued at £20m after scoring 12 goals for Wolves last season. The attacking midfielder was also a stand out performer in Wolves win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple admitted that the player could leave this season.
“I can’t sit here and definitely say he’s going absolutely nowhere because I don’t know what’s around the corner in four week’s time,” he said. “We’re a football club in the Championship.”
“We haven’t been in the Premier League for five seasons and we have very different financial pressures from a lot of other clubs in this league.”
“It will purely come down to whether someone comes in with an offer that’s too good for us to turn down.”
Arsenal will have higher priority targets this summer.
The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Lemar, Riyad Mahrez, Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe are said to be targets as Arsene Wenger attempts to build a squad to challenge for the league title.
It’s also difficult to see how Helder Costa would get first team football at Arsenal, with a number of attacking midfielders and wingers already at the club.
