Arsene Wenger has revealed that if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t fit enough to face Stoke on Saturday, Hector Bellerin will start in his place.
- Bellerin used to play right midfield on loan at Watford
- Enjoyed temporary advanced role against Southampton on Wednesday
- Wenger confirms right-back could play as wing-back again v Stoke
The Ox went down needing treatment shortly before half-time during Arsenal’s midweek win over Southampton. It was a shame because he’d been having another fantastic game.
The manager replaced the wide-man with right-back, Bellerin, who appeared to enjoy his new, more advanced role, even making two key passes.
Although Wenger is convinced that the Ox’s hamstring problem isn’t serious, the 23-year-old could still be sidelined for the trip to Stoke as a precaution.
Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash, which the Gunners need to win in order to keep their hopes of a top four finish alive, Wenger revealed that he will just start Bellerin if needs be.
“Yes he is [a natural replacement], he is an offensive player,” the manager said.
“He started as a right midfielder and we transformed him into a full-back.”
