Sol Campbell names 5 players he wants Arsenal to sign

With Arsene Wenger under increasing pressure, the summer transfer window offers a new opportunity to strengthen his squad and Sol Campbell thinks he knows exactly who the Gunners should sign.

Campbell offered his view of which players should Arsene Wenger go for, and there are few expensive options suggested by the 43-year-old.

While speaking for an online betting site, Sol named these five players he’d like to see join Arsenal:

Antoine Griezmann

The biggest name on this list, the 26-year-old French striker is probably on the top of every European’s club wishlist, and there are more than enough options for him if he wants to leave Atletico Madrid. Manchester United are believed to be firm favourites for his signature this summer.

Griezmann scored 30 goals this season for Atletico Madrid in 53 appearances in all competitions.

He’s adapted to playing in multiple positions, changing from left to the right wing, and even playing as a shadow striker.

His skills and goalscoring abilities are well known and any club would dream of having that kind of player as a spearhead for their attacks.

Kylian Mbappe

A rising star, Mbappe was recently mentioned in a story about how Arsene Wenger almost convinced him to join just last summer.

The 18-year-old has gathered a serious following after his magnificent season for Monaco for whom he’s scored 26 goals over 44 appearances.

As probably the hottest young prospect in Europe, Mbappe would require a huge transfer bid,. We’ve all seen that Wenger isn’t ready to spend that sort of money, no matter how good a player may be.

Karim Benzema

karim benzema

The 29-year-old Benzema is often on the wrong side of reports as journalists often criticise his lack of effort or work rate, and the number of chances needed for him to score a goal.

The Frenchman has made 45 appearances this season for Real Madrid, scoring 17 goals, but could find himself on his way out of the club as Alvaro Morata is showing great potential and a better conversion rate.

Benzema could offer enough experience to Arsenal’s attack, and would certainly play ahead of Giroud and Welbeck.

Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk

The Dutch international had a great season for Southampton before eventually getting injured. Van Dijk has put in a number of solid performances and is seen as a perfect partner for Laurent Koscielny.

Unfortunately, the battle for Van Dijk’s signature is a fierce one, with reports of Chelsea and Liverpool both going all out in the efforts to persuade the 25-year-old to join them instead.

Harry Maguire

The 25-year-old Harry Maguire is possibly the oddest addition on this list.

The current Hull player is playing as a central defender, but has the ability to cover the at right-back.

He made 36 appearances this season with a 7.07 average rating, scoring three goals and assisting two.

His defensive work has been vital to Hull’s performances this season as the player offers great aerial ability and isn’t prone to making mistakes.
