According to reports in both Goal and the Sun, Arsenal are prepared to battle Premier League champions Chelsea for Álvaro Morata this summer.
The Real Madrid striker is reportedly looking for another club as he’s unhappy with the sporadic first-team minutes received this season, despite a commendable goalscoring record.
He’s not seen as a star man at the Bernabeu and wants to play in a similar role as he had at Juventus where his presence was an important one to the team, as opposed to a dangerous option off the bench.
The fact that he hasn’t been trusted to feature from the offset during big matches this season has been frustrating and as a result, it’s likely that Zinedine Zidane is expecting some tempting offers from interested suitors this summer.
Among them is Arsenal, again, who are supposedly prepared to make a club-record bid of £50m. Whether or not Alexis Sánchez decides to sign a new contract extension, this transfer would be an eye-opener and one that could help justify him extending his deal, playing alongside more highly-regarded forwards.
Chelsea are also interested, with manager Antonio Conte a big fan of the Spaniard.
Morata’s preferred option is a move to west London and he was quoted as saying, “I feel indebted to Conte because he is the manager who trusted and most wanted me – even though he left Juventus before I arrived.”
