Newcastle are reportedly interested in splashing the cash on long-time Arsenal ‘target’, William Carvalho.

  • Benitez wants to bolster Newcastle squad
  • Newcastle willing to splash the cash
  • Carvalho has £39m release clause but Sporting likely to let him go for less

Newcastle have been promoted to the Premier League after spending just one season in the Championship and are ready to flex their financial muscle. In fact, they’re apparently willing to sign £39m Sporting midfielder, Carvalho, who Arsenal have been linked with for a few years.

According to Portuguese outlet, O Jogo, Rafa Benitez wants to bolster the Magpies ahead of next season in order to give them a strong chance of survival.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager obviously doesn’t fancy getting relegated again.

Carvalho has played in 43 matches this season over all competitions, scoring twice and assisting three times in the Portuguese league.

The 25-year-old’s contract at Sporting runs out in 2020.
