Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Lyon striker, Alexandre Lacazette.

  • Arsenal set to return for Lacazette
  • Lacazette has scored 31 goals in 40 appearances (all comps)
  • Player wants Champions League football
  • Liverpool also interested in signing 26-year-old

Lacazette has been an Arsenal target since last summer when the Gunners had a bid rejected by Lyon.

With Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club in doubt, it seems that Arsene Wenger will return for the high-scoring Ligue 1 star to add more firepower to Arsenal’s attack.

However, with the Gunners set to finish outside the top four and therefore fail to get Champions League football next season, it seems as if the 26-year-old won’t be interested.

“[The team I will join] will have to be in the Champions League and play good football,” Lacazette said recently.

“Passing the ball, not just hitting it from box to box. Not kick and rush. That would not work for me.”

The Champions League is a massive motivator for new players.

Before, despite not winning much, Arsenal had this going for them.

Now, they’re not only playing terribly, top players could be leaving, no one knows where Wenger’s going, and there’s no Champions League football next season.

Will Arsenal still have any pulling power?
