Ex-Gunner, Emmanuel Petit, believes that Arsenal are under-prepared for their FA Cup final clash against another one of his former teams, Chelsea.

  • Petit believes six days isn’t enough for Arsenal to prepare
  • Chelsea on a high after winning Premier League
  • Arsenal unsure who will be available for FA Cup final at Wembley

Petit has described the last week for Chelsea as sunshine, whereas Arsenal’s has been clouds. And he has a point.

The Gunners, he points out, have missed out on Champions League football next season for the first time in two decades by just one point. Despite beating Everton 3-1 during their final Premier League match, Liverpool’s win meant the result meant nothing.

On top of that, Arsene Wenger’s side lost captain Laurent Koscielny to a red card, Gabriel to injury, and Shkodran Mustafi is set to miss out because he’s ill and hasn’t trained. Plus, although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez have been in training, they face late tests ahead of the final.

Therefore, it’s hard for Wenger to prepare for the game because he doesn’t know who will be available.

Whereas, on the other side of London, Chelsea have been celebrating winning the league.

“With Koscielny being out with his red card and being suspended. I don’t know about Sanchez’s injury either. After the game the players and the managers will have been disappointed to have finished just the one point behind Liverpool and missed out on the Champions League, so mentally and psychologically it’s not been a good day for Arsenal,” Petit explained to bwin.

“It’s not the best way to prepare for an FA Cup final just six days later. It’s hard for Arsenal as Chelsea will have been celebrating winning the title and they will want to confirm the Double. It was the last game for John Terry as well – it’s been sunshine couple of days for Chelsea and clouds for Arsenal so it’s not the best preparation.”

All Arsenal can do is prepare the best they can. Hopefully, being the underdogs will work in their favour this time.
