Discarded Arsenal youngster up for Goal of the Month award at Southampton

Former Young Gun, Nathan Tella, is up for Southampton’s goal of the month award.

  • Tella played for Arsenal from age of 7
  • Gunners decided not to extend deal
  • Signed for Southampton in March
  • Currently 3rd in poll to win goal of the month

At the time of writing, the vote for Tella to win was at 11% behind 22-year-old James Ward-Prowse (26%) and 25-year-old Jordy Clasie (63%).

The goals nominated were Tella’s screamer for the Saints’ u18s against Newcastle’s u18s; Ward-Prowse’s tap-in against Crystal Palace; and Clasie’s 20-yarder against West Brom.

Tella was told in February that Arsenal weren’t going to extend his deal past this season, so the 17-year-old, who’d been been at the club since he was just seven, had to look elsewhere.

He found himself on trial at Southampton, who decided they wanted him on a permanent deal and the rest is history.

It’s good the see the lad doing well.
