France manager Didier Deschamps has warned Kylian Mbappé off a possible move to the Premier League, stressing that he should continue his development with AS Monaco.
The talented 18-year-old has made a successful senior breakthrough, having been officially promoted from the youth ranks last summer following an influential display during France u19’s European Championship glory.
With 25 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this term, only Radamel Falcao (28) has more goals than the teenager for Leonardo Jardim’s side. As a result, his performances have unsurprisingly prompted interest from some of Europe’s elite sides. Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Juventus are just a few of the clubs who’ve been recently linked with his signature.
Deschamps told French newspaper L’Equipe that it’s important he ignores current interest and remains at Monaco, to continue progressing.
“From my experience, I’d say he should stay at Monaco for further development.”
Having already made his senior international debut in March this year, he’s expected to feature against both Sweden and England with upcoming friendlies next month.
He’ll be hoping that whatever the decision is about his future, he can continue to replicate his impressive goal-scoring exploits and remain a regular within the France squad.
