It probably won’t surprise you to find out that Laurent Koscielny has made the most Premier League interceptions this season.

  • Kos has made 87 Premier League interceptions during 2016/17 season
  • Defender is statistically Arsenal’s second best player
  • Has made 31 league appearances this season

Since signing for Arsenal from Lorient in 2010, Koscielny has been more or less a permanent part of the Gunners’ starting XI.

When fans look back at the centreback’s first season or two, they tend to remember losing the League Cup final 2-1 to Birmingham. A last-minute mix-up between an inexperienced Wojciech Szczesny and Kos led to the Blues’ winning goal.

However, apart from this, Kos was actually pretty solid. Even at the beginning.

The France international has developed into not only a world class defender but a great leader and, despite Arsenal’s poor season, has still been brilliant.

The 31-year-old has made 87 interceptions this season – more than any other player. More than Hull’s Curtis Davies (86) and Manchester United’s Ander Herrera (81).

And although this could just be down to the fact that he’s had to make more interceptions because the rest of the Arsenal team have been so poor, it doesn’t matter – he’s still been there.

If you compare his performance score on Squawka to his Arsenal teammates, Kos is second only to Alexis Sanchez; he’s also ranked as the fifth best player in the entire league.
