Arsenal 5 man wishlist to replace Alexis and Ozil

Arsenal have reportedly put together a five-man shortlist of attacking players who can replace Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez if they leave north London this summer.

With both stars’ contracts set to run out next summer and the club allegedly reluctant to allow them to leave for free, Arsenal are apparently lining up five men who could step in and do their job.

While Ozil appears to be happy where he is, he wants Champions League football, which Arsenal failed to secure for next season, and Alexis has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Of course, no one will ever be able to replace Mesut Ozil, and Alexis has been immense for Arsenal this season, scoring 30 goals over all competitions, but surely it’s sensible to have a back-up plan, right?

Here are the five players Arsenal are looking at, according to the Telegraph.

Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal were heavily linked with Lyon striker Lacazette last summer, even having a bid of €35m very publicly rebuffed by the Ligue 1 club.

The Gunners are reportedly returning for the Frenchman, who’s netted 37 goals in 45 appearances this season. However, he’s allegedly far more interested in signing for Atletico Madrid.

Kylian Mbappe

Arsene Wenger has been open about his admiration for Monaco striker, 18-year-old Mbappe.

The teenager has scored 15 Ligue 1 goals and assisted 11 this season, and even netted six in the Champions League.

The France international is being monitored by a few big European clubs. Therefore, if Arsenal want him, they’ll have to compete financially.

Marco Reus

Arsenal have been reportedly keeping an eye on Dortmund winger, Reus, for a while. Although he’s contributed to 21 goals in 24 appearances this season, he’s spent large periods of time sidelined through injury.

The Gunners have enough injury-prone players as it is.

How likely: Not at all

Thomas Lemar

The Monaco winger isn’t quite at Mbappe’s level but is a solid player who Arsenal genuinely seem to have been keeping tabs on. If the Gunners fail in snagging his teammate, Lemar is a sound second option.

The 21-year-old’s scored nine and assisted 11 in Ligue 1 this season.

How likely: Quite likely

Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal seemed to be interested in the Premier League player of the season last year but given Leicester, and Mahrez’s, mediocre campaign this term, it’s unlikely that Wenger will return.

This season, the 26-year-old has scored 10 in 48 appearances over all competitions compared to 18 in 39 last year.
