Ahead of Arsenal’s game against Manchester United, Alexis Sanchez has given an exclusive interview to Sky Sports that will be shown ahead of the game.

With Geoff Shreeves desperately trying to get an answer out of the Chilean that would give us an indication of where his future lies, Alexis kept to the script – fight, win games, lift the FA Cup, qualify for the Champions League and then we will talk.

He admitted that he needs to win league titles and/or the Champions League to be considered a truly great player. Although wouldn’t go so far as to say outright that failure to qualify for the Champions League next season would see him leave, the importance he places on it makes that scenario far more likely.

He also speaks glowingly about the talent at Arsene Wenger’s disposal at the club.

“I don’t think it has been a very good season for me because I came here to win trophies, to be competing in the  Champions League and to win the Premier League and I feel disappointed that we aren’t in a position to win the Premier League or the Champions League,” Alexis said.

Shreeves then asked him if Arsenal being in the Champions League will inform his decision in the future. “It depends,” he replied.

“What I want to do now is finish the season well, try to qualify for the Champions League and winning the FA cup.

“The manager and I have said that the two of us will sit down together to discuss the topic in terms of what will happen and what we’re going to do, what’s best for the club, what’s best for me, what’s best for him.

“We’ll speak once the season is over because if I speak now, that would take my focus away from qualifying for the Champions League and winning the FA Cup.”

Asked how he feels about possibly having his best goalscoring season (he needs one more), Alexis replied, “I’m very happy about that but as always I demand more from myself.

“I think that if a player wants to be at the very top, he needs to win the Champions League and league titles.

“That’s what makes the great players truly great.

“First of all, I think we need to win on Sunday [against United], we need to give our sweat, blood and whatever it takes.

“Every player needs to give their all and it has to be the same in every game.

“We also need to win the FA Cup final so the aim is to qualify for the Champions League and lift the FA Cup.”

These extra quotes did not appear in the video but were included on Four Four Two.

“I want to win the Champions League which is every footballer’s dream. I want to win the Premier League because I play here.

“I feel disappointed that we are not in a position to win the Premier League or the Champions League, but we do have the FA Cup final coming up and we will give it our all to try to win it.

“When I got here, I thought, ‘I will win the title with this squad’. I feel that we should win more games 3-0 or 4-0, of course, that does sometimes happen when we play very well. I think Arsenal play the best brand of football in England.

“I have played for other clubs and I have to say that the quality of the players here is very impressive. There isn’t a very big difference.”
