Unsurprisingly, Alexis Sánchez has earned himself a place in the Daily Star’s Premier League Team of the Season.

Having scored 23 goals and created eleven assists in England’s top flight this term, it was a genuine eye-opener that Sadio Mané was preferred over him in the PFA’s team, though many suggested he could have been a shortlisted as an attacker – with Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku leading the line in the PFA’s team.

Alexis was a surprise omission from the PFA TOTY, especially as he was one of their nominees for the Player of the Season accolade itself. If only the club had been more consistent..

There are a few changes in the Star’s side, which has been picked by their online team.

In the same 4-4-2 formation as the PFA’s team, Burnley’s Tom Heaton was picked over Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Toby Alderweireld and Cesar Azpilicueta also featured in the backline, ahead of Kyle Walker and Gary Cahill whilst Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso was chosen over left-back Danny Rose, who has been injured since February.
