10 Arsenal players linked with other clubs

This summer we could see a number of players leave Arsenal.

We’ve had a look to see who could leave and how much truth there is to the rumours linking them away…

Per Mertesacker

The 32-year-old defender was recently linked with a possible move to Galatasaray this summer, with Igor Tudor interested in the experienced German’s availability. Any potential move for him seems increasingly unlikely for now though, as Mertesacker has revealed Wenger’s faith in him having exercised the option for a one-year extension back in December.

Kieran Gibbs

Gibbs has regularly been linked with a permanent move away from the Emirates for a few seasons now, but the latest on his future includes links with a surprise switch to Rafa Benitez’s newly-promoted Newcastle side.

He’d be a first-team regular under the Spaniard and with Kolasinac’s impending arrival in north London, it’d be a surprise if he didn’t make the move for the sake of his career.

Carl Jenkinson

Another man who needs to leave in order to progress is Carl Jenkinson.

The 25-year-old was reportedly on the verge of a move to Crystal Palace in January and speculation has once again surrounded his future at the club.

Newcastle and Brighton as well as the aforementioned Eagles are reportedly interested.

Lucas Perez

The 28-year-old Spanish forward has been left frustrated by a lack of regular minutes, having joined from Deportivo for £17m last summer.

He has already refused to rule out a potential return to La Liga this summer and given his comments, it’s likely that he’d be open to the idea given the level of competition for attack-minded positions at Arsenal.

Hector Bellerín

Having just signed a new long-term deal last November, it clearly hasn’t stopped Barcelona or Manchester City from keeping an eye on Bellerín’s situation at Arsenal.

Barcelona in particular have intensified their interest in the 22-year-old, and according to reports, are open to the possibility of securing a swap deal for his services. Bellerin, however, has said he’s going nowhere.

David Ospina

The Colombian number one seems destined for a move away from the Gunners this summer, not because the return of Wojciech Szczesny is just weeks away.

Ospina has played sporadically across the campaign and despite featuring as the FA Cup and Champions League goalkeeper, he needs to play on a weekly basis and Arsenal will not guarantee him that.

Fenerbahce on the other hand, might be able to do just that. A €7m transfer fee is reportedly in the works for his signature.

Nacho Monreal

The experienced left-back has been continually linked with a move back to Spain, as Athletic Bilbao have tried and failed to sign him on a number of occasions in the past.

Arsene Wenger’s future is still in doubt despite claims that a two-year deal is on the table and according to Marca, Monreal will leave if the Frenchman departs this summer.

Laurent Koscielny

What is it with players and returning to their home countries?

This time, club vice-captain Laurent Koscielny has been linked with a possible move to Ligue 1 side Marseille, who are keen to address their defensive problems and eager to take advantage of the fact that at some stage before he does retire, Arsenal’s best defender would like to return home and play in France once more.

Alexis Sanchez

Despite Wenger stressing the fact that Alexis would not be sold to another this summer, it has not stopped the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich from sniffing around to try and unsettle the talented Chilean.

Arsenal’s talisman, the fact that he’s only got a year remaining on his existing deal has accelerated speculation over his future and if he were to leave, Bayern would be the most likely destination as they are not domestic rivals.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Despite recent reports suggesting the club are preparing a new contract extension for the 23-year-old, Liverpool have been regularly linked with a move for the Ox.

This season has been his best at the Gunners and despite initial comments from Jurgen Klopp months back suggesting the rumour was nonsense, he would offer both versatility and quality to their midfield as they look to challenge in the UEFA Champions League once again.
