Arsene Wenger admits that Arsenal will need a ‘perfect’ run-in if they have any hope of finishing in the top four this season.

  • 7 points outside top 4 with 7 games left
  • Wenger knows team need to win every match to have chance of top 4 finish
  • Gunners have never finished outside top 4 under Wenger

Arsenal have never finished outside the top four under Wenger but it looks like this is finally set to happen this season.

The Gunners are in seventh, seven points behind Manchester City in fourth place, with tricky matches against Spurs at White Hart Lane and Manchester United still to come. Therefore, even if City or Liverpool in third were to drop points, Wenger knows that Arsenal need maximum points in order to capitalise.

“It is open, but what is demanded from us is a consistency of results between now and the end of the season,” Wenger said.

“It is still possible, but we need a perfect run-in. It [beating City] will give us a lift for sure but we have to show we can keep that level of desire and hunger in every game.

“That has to be the target and so to achieve that we have to win the next one and we have to transfer the energy level we showed on Sunday into the Premiership.

“It will give us a bit more confidence and convince everybody with the right energy level, the right fighting spirit and togetherness, we can beat anybody.”

Despite pulling off an impressive win against Manchester City in the FA Cup this weekend, Arsenal’s league form has been pretty terrible since Christmas. Will asking them to win 100% of their remaining seven matches be too much?
