Arsene Wenger insists that Mesut Ozil cares more than people seem to think he does.

  • Ozil signed for Arsenal in 2013
  • Ozil’s Arsenal contract runs out in June 2018
  • Ozil’s scored 6 and assisted 7 Premier League goals this season

Ozil has come under criticism during the second half of this season after his form dropped following an illness at Christmas. However, he’s gradually returning to the standard we’re all used to.

Due to the playmaker’s quiet nature and languid body language, no matter how well he’s playing, he often gets accused of not caring, which Wenger insists couldn’t be further from the truth.

“He’s very ambitious,” Wenger said during his pre-Crystal Palace presser.

“He wants to win the Champions League. He cares much more than people think that he does.”

Ozil’s Arsenal contract has around 15 months left and although fans are slightly more optimistic that he’ll stay at the club than Alexis Sanchez, many are still anxious about losing the club’s best player.

Wenger, however, claims that negotiations are set to start again once the season’s over in the summer.

If Ozil is an ambitious as the boss claims, you have to imagine that if Arsenal don’t secure Champions League football for next season, he could be off.
