The Dutchman already has one statue of his outside the Clock End of the Emirates and is now set to have another unveiled this summer. This time, however, the bronze statue will be commemorating his time playing for the Netherlands.

The second statue is part of a project put together by the KNVB, aka Royal Dutch Football Association, after Bergkamp was voted the best Dutch player of the last 25 years back in 2014.

The announcement was made by Michael van Praag, the Federal President of the Dutch Football Association three years ago.

“All the five nominated ex-internationals are worth a statue based on their merit for Dutch football,” he said.

“Bergkamp was a footballer with a fabulous technique, always had an eye for the through ball and was the master of the final pass. The Dutch public has enjoyed many of his matches in Orange,” he added. “He, therefore, fits excellently with the other ex-internationals already in the Orange Hall of Fame.”

The KNVB and artist Lia Krol have chosen to replicate the forward’s iconic World Cup 1998 quarter-final goal against Argentina for their statue, which will be unveiled by Bergkamp himself.
