Mesut Ozil has once again reiterated his love for London and Arsenal but admits that finishing in the top four is important to him.

  • Ozil’s Arsenal deal expires next year
  • Player loves Arsenal and London
  • Says top four finish and FA Cup win is important
  • Talks will restart over summer

Speaking to TivibuSpor, Ozil repeated that he loves London, the club and his teammates. This is something he’s always stood by.

However, with Arsenal unlikely to finish in the top four, the German has also admitted that this is a huge factor for him and talks over a new contract will resume at the end of the season.

“I have always said I am very happy at Arsenal,” the 28-year-old said [translated by Sport Witness].

“I love London, and the lifestyle here is perfect for me. I love my teammates and get along with them very well. But as I’ve said before, the talks will be in the summer. We have to achieve the targets as a team first.

“We were knocked out in the Champions League, we are not in good position in the league we have to sort this first. Our aim is the win the FA Cup and get the 4th spot in the Premier League. These are more important for me and after these we’ll talk about it in the summer.”

While Arsenal have made the FA Cup final against Chelsea, which Ozil also says is important, it’s highly unlikely that they’re going to climb from seventh to fourth in the Premier League. They’d have to nudge Manchester United, City and Everton out the way to do so and while the Gunners have three games in hand over the toffees, getting into the top four seems like it’s asking a bit much.
