According to a recent report in Yahoo! France, someone in Laurent Koscielny’s entourage thinks the player could be attracted by Marseille.
- Laurent Kosicelny is on the wishlist of Marseille boss, Rudi Garcia
- He recently signed a new deal taking him to 2020
- Kos has 22 goals and 5 assists since joining Arsenal
According to a recent report, somebody within Laurent Koscielny’s ‘entourage’ said, “Why not? If Marseille attract Dimitri Payet, Marseille can do the same with Laurent Koscielny.”
Although the build-up to Payet’s return to France was completely different, it’s unlikely that Koscielny – who has been at Arsenal since 2010 – would make clear his desire to leave given how public he has been with praise for the club recently.
He previously stated his eagerness for either a Lorient return or to finish his career in England, so any Marseille link seem unlikely to say the least at this point.
Koscielny, 31, signed a contract extension in January committing his future until the summer of 2020.
The talented centre-back, whose performances have established him as the club’s best defender in recent seasons, is a key player at Arsenal despite his troublesome injuries.
His current Achilles issue saw him substituted during our 2-2 draw with Manchester City last weekend and it’s unlikely he’ll feature again for a few weeks – although Arsène Wenger confirmed it’s better than first feared.
Many reports have previously suggested his long-term future will depend on Wenger’s situation at the club. It’s uncertain whether Arsene will decide to leave or extend his contract beyond this current campaign, with his existing deal ending at the end of June.
If Wenger does depart, it’s plausible that Koscielny could consider his future. Plausible, but unlikely.
