Martin Keown claims that Arsenal currently envy Tottenham.
- Spurs are 14 points ahead of Arsenal
- Tottenham last finished above the Gunners in 1994/95
- Keown believes Arsenal now watch ‘special’ Spurs with envy
Following Spurs smashing Watford 4-0 in the league on Saturday, Arsenal lost 3-0 to Palace, once again throwing fans into turmoil over the state of their club.
However, while there’s no denying that Mauricio Pochettino’s side doesn’t look half bad this season, saying that their north London rivals envy them is a bit of a stretch.
Keown, however, disagrees.
“These are young men taking responsibility – they’re winners,” the former Arsenal defender said of Spurs.
“It’s a group that’s growing together. If you go to White Hart Lane now, they know they’ve got a special team in the making.
“We watch in envy from north London because it’s a special them they’re developing.”
But why would Arsenal envy Spurs?
This season, like the Gunners, they’re still in contention for the FA Cup. Other than that, they’re not winning the title and they haven’t even won a League Cup since 2007/08.
So, what is there to envy?
If Arsenal’s bitterest rivals somehow managed to continue finishing above the Gunners for 20 more years, then perhaps there will be envy. Right now, there seems to be more concern over what’s going on with our club than what’s happening at theirs.
