Martin Keown reckons that Arsenal should sign Yaya Toure from Manchester City.

  • Toure out of contract in June
  • Found it difficult to get regular first team football under Guardiola
  • Keown reckons Arsenal should sign him
  • Yaya’s older brother Kolo played for Arsenal from 2002-2009

Since signing for City from Barcelona in 2010, Yaya Toure has been a key player. At the age of 33, he’s probably still one of the strongest defensive midfielders out there, which he demonstrated during the Manchester Derby on Thursday night.

However, when Pep Guardiola took charge, Yaya saw less and less football and his future at the club still seems uncertain, despite getting more game time during the second half of the season.

With the Ivory Coast international’s City deal expiring in June and it still being unclear whether he’ll stay, former Gunner, Martin Keown, reckons there will be clubs lining up to sign him. And he believes Arsenal should be one of them.

“With Yaya Toure making marauding runs in midfield (against Manchester United)… it was as if City had turned back time!” Keown wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“If City let Toure go in the summer there will be clubs queueing up to sign him — and Arsenal should be one of the teams looking to bring him in.”

Put in a word, will you Kolo?
