According to an Italian report, Inter are preparing for the possibility that centre-back, Jeison Murillo, could want to leave this summer.

The 24-year-old Colombian defender has attracted interest from Manchester City, Leicester, Tottenham and Arsenal in recent seasons.

City were reportedly interested in sealing a loan switch in January, whilst both north London clubs have been tracking his progress with the intention of making an offer to strengthen their respective backlines.

Inter are aware of the situation and, as a result, are protecting themselves by offering him a contract extension on improved weekly wages. If he doesn’t accept their terms, it is believed that he will be given the opportunity to leave for the right price – in the region of £30m – this summer.

Murillo, whose current contract expires in 2020, has been at the club for two years. It’s likely that he will ponder a move elsewhere if Inter fail to secure a European qualification spot.

With five league matches remaining, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that they will continue to compete amongst Europe’s elite next season given their overall inconsistency – prompting questions over the long-term futures of players like their highly-rated defender.

With 45 interceptions, 36 completed tackles and 56.4% aerial duels won in Serie A this season, Murillo has impressed when featuring alongside the likes of Miranda and Gary Medel.

He’s still a raw defensive talent, but one that could turn out to be positively influential in the same way Gabriel has surprised critics this term.
