Petr Cech reckons that Arsenal deserved the bit of luck they got for their one and only goal against Leicester on Wednesday night.

  • Arsenal pushed on in second half and were dominant
  • Cech believes Arsenal deserved bit of luck
  • Gunners now 4 points off 4th

The goal, which deflected off Robert Huth, was probably lucky but, as Cech pointed out post-match, Arsenal were pushing on and getting closer to scoring.

Arsenal had a total of 12 shots to Leicester’s seven; five on target to the Foxes’ three. They also had 68.9% of the possession and completed 223/277 passes in the final third compared to Leicester’s 41/82. They had 12 corners to the visitors’ one.

“Sometimes you need to be patient, you need to make sure that you push on for the 90 minutes and today we obviously scored a late goal,” the goalkeeper said.

“But it was coming, we were getting closer and closer and they were defending well but in the end we found a deflection and I think that we probably felt that [we deserved] a little bit of luck with the deflection because of the way we pushed on.”

Would the Gunners have found a way to break the deadlock otherwise? You never can tell. However, the win was needed and after the shambles that has been this season, I’m not sure many people care whether Arsenal deserved their lucky goal or not.
