Arsenal are reportedly one of six Premier League teams interested in signing Ajax defender, Matthijs de Ligt.

  • 17-year-old rose through the ranks at Ajax
  • De Ligt got his first cap for the Netherlands this year against Bulgaria
  • Centreback made his debut for Ajax’s senior team in a cup game against Willem II

Despite being just 17-years-old, Matthijs de Ligt was promoted to Ajax’s senior squad in October 2016 and has featured 15 times in all competitions this season. The centreback’s even scored twice.

After impressing for Ajax, the teenager was given his first cap for the Netherlands in which he played 45 minutes against Bulgaria during a World Cup Qualifier. ‘Built like a tank’ according to Football Oranje, he stands over six feet tall in a body that is far older than his physical years.

According to the Daily Star, the Dutch international’s rapid rise has caught the eyes of several Premier League clubs including Everton, Manchester City, United, Spurs, Chelsea and, of course, Arsenal.
